Overview
Rapid Strep Test is done by rubbing the throat and tonsils. Patients must remain still to help the medical practitioner collect the sample for an accurate result. Results are available within 10 to 15 minutes.
Why do I require a rapid test?
This test helps to detect if Group A bacterias, known as streptococcal, are the cause of a sore throat. A different test to detect bacteria is throat culture, however results take longer.
How do I prepare for the test?
No requirements are needed for the test.
How is it done?
Your doctor will ask you to tilt your head back and open your mouth as wide as you can to hold the tongue with a flat stick to help examine your mouth and throat. A cotton swab will be used to rub your throat and tonsils or any sore and red area.
How long does it take?
Test will be done in less than a minute, results will take within 10 to 15 minutes.
