Overview
At RG Pharmacy Clinic, we use Neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport) for both cosmetic and medical purposes – such as TMJ pain and migraines.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
TMJ disorders (TMDs) can cause jaw pain, headaches, and other symptoms. Conservative interventions are the first line of treatment, as they can often relieve the symptoms. For some people, though, TMD symptoms continue to be painful and disabling.
A doctor can inject Botox into various jaw muscles.
This paralyzes the muscles, helping the person relax and reducing symptoms such as tensing the jaw and grinding. As a result, a person’s TMJ-related symptoms may improve.
Botox injections can reduce TMJ symptoms such as:
- pain
- jaw click
- hyper-mobility and hyperactivity
- limited jaw mobility
However, Botox is not a cure for TMJ issues. It is a temporary treatment that wears off over time. A person must repeat the treatment every few months to maintain the effects.
Migraines
Migraines can include severe throbbing head pain, sensitivity to light, nausea, and fatigue. While we don’t know exactly what causes migraines, they seem to involve overactive neurotransmitters.
Botox injections are FDA-approved to treat chronic migraines, defined as having 15 or more migraines monthly, each lasting more than four hours. Botox is thought to help by disrupting the neurotransmitters involved in migraine activity.
COSMETIC TREATMENT
Time, smoking, sunlight exposure and hereditary factors can damage skin. Botox® Cosmetic is a protein complex made by bacterium clostridium botulinum which has botulism, a toxin that causes food poisoning. Applying in small doses, it blocks the capability of underlying facial muscles to contract and minimize wrinkles. This treatment usually lasts between three to four months.
Treatment prices may vary since they are customized according to what the patient needs. Book a complimentary consultation for our professional assessment to help you choose what is most suitable for you.
